END 68 HOURS OF HUNGER
Report by Terri Kirkland and the Witness & Service Committee
The response to the END 68 HOURS OF HUNGER Food Drive this year was wonderful. The congregation of PCPC generously donated over 200 bags of groceries, 50 cases of food, and made numerous monetary donations to support hungry students in our neighborhood. This mission has highlighted the needs of many south Tampa children who do not receive food on the weekends. The only meals they receive are provided by the free breakfasts and lunches they receive at school. END 68 HOURS OF HUNGER is a volunteer organization that fills backpacks with food for these students to take home every Friday. Each backpack provides 3 dinners, 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and snacks for the students and their siblings. More than 30 PCPC congregants volunteered to help pack and deliver the food which allowed the program to expand into 3 additional schools this month. The program now feeds 225 students every weekend. The loving and giving spirit of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church is being felt throughout our community.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.
